US cities are to an increasing degree starting to address green urban planning and smart mobility in support of livable cities. In 2015, the U.S. Department of Transportation launched a Smart Cities Challenge, encouraging cities to put forward proposals for smart and sustainable mobility. The vision of the Smart Cities Challenge is to demonstrate holistic approaches to improve transportation performance, while also addressing planning of public spaces.
Denmark is a frontrunner in this area, where an integrated approach to urban planning is key to success. This includes rethinking of the way we use urban spaces, integration of different modes of transportation (transit, walking, bicycling, driving) and better use of intelligent communication systems. The Smart Cities NYC Expo will address precisely these issues and is therefore the backdrop for the New York part of the program.
The delegation is an opportunity to showcase Danish expertise and meet with relevant public decision makers and business counterparts in Austin and New York City. This business delegation is relevant for companies, who provide solutions related to green and multifunctional public spaces, urban technology and data systems, and smart mobility. We encourage both product suppliers, service providers, architects and software/data solutions companies to join.
