DI and Danish-Chinese Business Forum invites you to participate in this exclusive network meeting on 19 September 2017 at Danske Bank in Copenhagen.
Jörg Wuttke, President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC), will be sharing his experiences from working in China for 30 years. At the seminar, Mr Wuttke will address two current topics of great importance to Danish companies:
Chinese protectionism – myth or reality?
The EUCCC has published a report stipulating that recent years’ policy measures from Beijing is leading to unfair treatment of foreign companies with ambitions on the Chinese market. The report takes aim at the growing use of subsidies, investment funds and support for China’s state-owned enterprises as well as market-access restrictions and forced technology transfers for foreign businesses. But is this a fair characterization of the current situation in China? Or merely a natural reflection of China’s attempts to develop a balanced economy, less dependent on exports and foreign investment?
Belt and Road initiative – business opportunity or political hegemony?
President Xi Jinping’s prestigious foreign policy project is a highly ambitious initiative, which has the potential to catalyze trade and investments from Asia to Europe. However, to date, the initiative is less of a practical plan than a broad political vision. Moreover, critics accuse the initiative for being a way to revamp China’s ailing state-owned industry at the expense of nimble entrepreneurs and private capital.
Mr Wuttke’s presentation and the subsequent panel discussion with invited guests will provide deeper insight into these topics, how they play out at the political and corporate levels in China, and what the implications could effectively mean for Danish businesses.
