Sensible to protect against bio-terrorism

A number of companies are stocking biological substances or different forms of equipment and apparatus that – if the worst comes to the worst – could be misused by terrorists to make biological weapons. New rules require the companies to have permission in future. DI finds the rules sensible.

A new law on bio-security is to create protection of biological substances and components which have so far received no major attention in Denmark. The new rules are quite sensible, according to DI CSR Advisor Christine Jøker Lohmann.

“In this way the companies have a good opportunity to show that they are capable of taking care of both substances and equipment in a responsible manner,” says Christine Jøker Lohmann.

She says that exporting companies, in particular, can profit greatly from spending time and energy in order to comply with the new rules.

“We know that in the United States, for instance, the authorities are very exacting about security when it comes to the handling of substances and equipment that could be abused by the wrong people,” she says.
