New increase in unemployment

The latest unemployment statistics from December 2009 confirm the difficult situation of many Danish businesses.

In December 2009, the number of jobless rose by 1,500 to 121,400 and now constitutes 4.3%. With the continued increase in unemployment, DI welcomes the four initiatives recently presented by the Minister for Employment in order to prevent the unemployment from increasing.

“The latest figures show that the companies are still under great pressure from the economic situation, so we welcome the latest, badly-needed hand from the Employment Minister,” says Steen Nielsen, Director of Wage and Labour Market Policy, DI.

He particularly commends the fact that the Employment Minister has listened to the companies and met their wish to extend a scheme that increases their access to work sharing.
“It is a very positive move that may help us avoid bad effects on employment in the longer term,” says Steen Nielsen.
