More jobs in foreign-owned businesses

After a drop in recent years, employee numbers in foreign-owned businesses increased in 2013-2014.
The almost 263,000 employees working in foreign-owned businesses account for 19% of all employees in Denmark.

According to the latest figures published by Statistics Denmark, a total of 262,824 full-time employees worked in foreign-owned enterprises in Denmark in 2014. That represents an increase of slightly more than 1,000 employees compared to 2013.

“It is good news that the drop we have seen in the number of employees working for foreign-owned businesses in Denmark over the past few years is being reversed,” says Deputy Director Kent Damsgaard from the Confederation of Danish Industry.

The almost 263,000 employees working in foreign-owned businesses account for 19% of all employees in Denmark. Not only do foreign-owned businesses offer a wealth of jobs. Their revenue represents as much as 22% of the total revenue generated by all enterprises in Denmark.

“We have seen a period in which we have found it difficult to attract foreign businesses to Denmark. Foreign-owned companies have reduced employee numbers for several years running. Luckily, this trend now seems to have been bucked,” says Kent Damsgaard.

“It is important that Denmark is a manufacturing country that is attractive to foreign-owned enterprises. These companies bring a wealth of knowhow to the country. This is important as it contributes to increasing productivity in Danish businesses across the board,” says Kent Damsgaard.
