Public-Private Partnership

Public-private partnerships incorporate models for private-sector involvement in the provision of public services and infrastructure. Public-private partnership is a way for public authorities to achieve value for money. The public service industry can emerge as a prosperous market for Danish enterprises.

Quality, efficiency and innovation

Public-private partnership is used as an instrument for achieving quality, efficiency and innovation in the delivery of public services.

Local and regional decision makers play an important role

In Denmark, there is a strong tradition for decentralised government structure. Municipalities and regions are running the day to day delivery of public services and are responsible for the majority of the public spending. Local and regional decisions makers play an important role implementing public sector reforms due to their wide decision and tax collection powers.

New structure reform will bring more public-private partnerships

In 2005 a new government structure reform was launched. 271 municipalities will merge into 98 by January 1, 2007. The structure reform is a window of opportunities for enhancement of public-private partnerships. Public purchaser will become more professional in their purchasing.
